life has been busy.
our new project is almost complete on the outside but still has a bit of interior work to be done.
our gardens are lush and jungle like from the extremely rainy spring we have had.
the weather has been gorgeous as of late with no humidity and crisp cool nights.
earl the squirrel continues to visit us daily for nuts.
the other day the contractors had the back door propped open. i came down to find earl in the kitchen to say good morning.
he’s part of the family now.
p.s. many of you have mentioned or written that you can no longer read or make comments. because things have shifted a bit here and are still in transition you may not have noticed that you just need to click on the title (which is now the date at the top of each post) and it will then lead you to the individual post where you can comment at the bottom.
don’t be shy!!!

I’m so glad you clarified how to leave a comment on the revamped site! Gosh, you really seem like you are taking this construction project in graceful stride. I have always nearly had a nervous breakdown when we have had projects done on our house. Can’t wait to see the final result!

Where did you find that awesome planter? The one that is behind your husbands back while he is feeding Earl? I love it and want one sooooo badly. Its perfect!

It amazes me that not so long ago (it seems) your garden was under snow, now it’s like a jungle!? It’s amazing how it bounces back like that. It’s Winter here now and things are looking bare and barren, it’s a nice reminder that in a few months things will look alive again!

I think there is a children’s book in your ‘Earl the Squirrel’ experience!

Glad to see about how to make comments. I had just discovered your site and made my first comment, when it looked like comments were taken away. Anyway, love the visuals on your site and can’t wait to see the finished attic. And, oh yes, Earl is very cute.

I’m so glad you mentioned that about the comments because as I scrolled down the post I said, “Amy! There’s a baby squirrel! In your kitchen!” Squeeee! He’s so adorable. We have a young blue jay hanging around this summer. It’s so sweet (though he is very loud and seems to be shouting at us all the time).
And I was going to say earlier, about Hannah’s room: When I was a girl, my parents built an addition on the house that became my room, too. It was on the second floor, looking toward the west. I had a Laura Ashley catalog and spent hours and hours poring over it. It was one of the best experiences of my life, and I loved that room. There’s that moment when it’s done and you just go in and sit on the floor in the empty room for the first time. It’s the best moment. I can’t think of anyone who will appreciate her aerie more than Hannah. What a lucky girl. xo

Earl the squirrel would be my son’s dream come true. He’s five years old and wishes dearly for a pet squirrel. He wants to domesticate one so much. I will show him your post tomorrow, although it will only make him want one more.
And you are taking the construction so well. I live in an old house as well and I get SO distressed about lead paint and asbestos exposure. I’m sure it’s all fine, but I tend to get totally overwhelmed with renovations and we have many. Share your secret to old home renovation zen, please? ๐

I thought you went to extreme privacy or something and didn’t want comments anymore : ) well just look at that adorable little squirrel. I can’t get mine to be that tame…I have four visitors and the smallest one is the tamest and will get the closest but not enough to touch. However all four understand “Little squirrel do you want a peanut?” and if they are not on the porch already looking in the window they’ll come running up the stairs if I go out and call and they are in the area! ๐
