our neighbors are away this week and have asked us to house sit.
you know the usual. take in the mail, water the plants, feed the cats and oh yeah, pick and eat as many figs off of their tree as we like!
oh yes!
they are so beautiful and so delicious fresh off of the tree.
i have been revolving our weekly menus around figs.
tonight i made a simple dessert by cutting the figs in half, coating them in sugar and caramelizing them in a skillet.
after they cooled down a bit i then added a huge dollop of greek yogurt on top.
so delish!!!

I love this idea for a dessert! I have been picking a ton of figs from the trees in my community garden, and just made fig-cinnamon jam with them this weekend. I also tried them sliced on a pizza with goat cheese! They are quickly becoming a new favorite fruit of mine!

Haha….first time I’ve seen figs in their natural state- I’m such a city gal! I didn’t have a clue what you were showing us there. LOL Thanks for the pics.

Our neighbor grows 2 varieties and has given us 2 sackfuls of ripe figs so far. We have 3 baby trees – it might take a few years for us! We enjoy them fresh and carmelized – often in oatmeal. They are expensive at the grocery store!!

Love your pics! Beautifully done. Love figs too, unfortunately they don’t grow that well in Oregon.

FIGS!!! I’m so jealous! I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve managed to kill two tiny fig trees in my time. They are a wee bit tricky in New England. It’s that taking them in for the winter bit that always turned deadly. They came in, but there was nothing to take back out come spring. My current tree crush is the hardy figs that I spotted at the nursery that are quite big and strong so they can just go out, be put in the ground and stay there!
