i am in need of a new broom.
i really like this one.
my friend thinks i’m funny that I won’t go to target to buy a new one.
but the truth of the matter is i like pretty things and i can’t find one at target that i like.
i know, i know it’s a broom for goodness sakes.
but more than ever i am wanting to take the time to think about my purchases and buy things that are well made and that I really love.
even if it means that I have to save up for something as practical as a broom.
this may all seem a bit complicated for some but for me it seems to simplify things.
it has been my mantra for some time to “surround myself with what i truly love”
and yes this means so much more than just stuff.
but I want to love my things too.
and you know what? I have actually been buying less since really trying to stick with my mantra.
asking myself “do I absolutely LOVE this? Will this bring me joy? Do I really need this? has helped me put many a thing back on the shelf and think about stuff in general.

but a broom?
well that is something I definitely cannot live without
and yes it will bring me joy each time I sweep up a pile of dirt because
gosh darn it i’m gonna love my broom!

i can really relate with that feeling. i’ve been working toward the same sort of goals. buying quality over quantity.

i was just thinking today about how brooms are so much more beautiful than vacuum cleaners.

and to be able to support craftspeople who are living beautiful lives–it’s a great choice. it’s good to read about someone else who feels the same way i do.

I am in desperate need of a new broom too. I feel the same, I want a pretty broom too. That Laundress broom is very lovely! I just ordered this one b/c it’s pretty w/ natural bristles & the (clearance) price was right …

Oh, I’ve been thinking the same sort of thoughts about brooms. And a Berea college broom is on my list. We have an inside broom and an outside broom and are in need of a basement broom. The berea broom will become the inside broom and the old inside broom will go to the basement workshop area. I’ve gone through a handful of brooms in the last years since I’ve moved a bunch and the natural bristle brooms are better at their job and stay cleaner too. Enjoy your broom and your sweeping!

i follow this path, as well, and have truly pared down to only what is meaningful and true (save for that pesky cookbook collection)~ it was easier living in the country, but even here in nyc, i am staying resolute. and happier. and currently broomless 😉

Thanks, Maria for the link. I like those brooms much better! I was redeeming a free $15 birthday certificate.
I like Jenna’s link too. I need to find a local supplier here on the West Coast, or better yet just take a broom-making class.
