Sometimes I give a little chuckle when I stop and look around. I can be in my own little world while wood is being chopped, laundry is being hung, and, chickens are clucking at my feet. I pretend we are on our little farm. Then I hear a car drive by and beep, and a neighbor’s leaf blower start up and can smell my neighbors breakfast of sausage and eggs in the air. It’s nice to pretend but it’s also nice to live in a community. I know we stand out a bit. We are the oddballs of the neighborhood. But recently my one neighbor hung up a laundry line. Maybe we are fitting in a little more, or maybe not. I kind of like being the oddball.

Oh, this is SO us! We talk about farms so much. We actually looked at all farms when house hunting, but then this house stole our hearts and we loved the walking distance to everything, the community, etc. We turned our entire side yard in the front into raised beds, got 19 chickens, have plans for 2 goats and maybe a miniature horse someday. People may look at us funny, but I think it keeps the neighborhood on its toes ๐ xoxo

i totally relate to your words here, amy. i long for more land, and to be out away from everything, to have more animals and growing room for food. there are definite advantages though to living in a community, close to luxuries like libraries, parks, grocery stores…
we attempt to live like we’re in the country as much as we can, which makes us oddballs as well ๐
