i have had a few good finds while thrifting these past few weeks.
thank goodness i just did a major spring clean out.
clear out the old and bring in the new (or at least new to me)

i couldn’t help but squeal a little when i spotted that pyrex pitcher.
the wooden stand which i think once held a casserole dish just had to come home with me. i gave it a basket for a new mate and i sort of like the combo.
it’s been a while since i have found a lamp of my liking. i was excited to find the grey and blue pottery one last week.
and last but not least is that sweet little watering pot from the lovely kim of trampoline.
she has such a talent in making things beautiful and giving them a whole new meaning.

my day started out a bit sour but soon improved.
every year when we spring forward the day seems to fly by.
we did a good spring clean.
went out for italian.
and the girls are still outside playing with the neighborhood gang.

chris just walked by and asked me what i was doing.
i told him i was writing a blog post.
he told me to write a post about how much my husband loves me.
now how could my day not turn from sour to sweet?

back in the fall when we first created hannah’s schedule of ballet, choir, archery and sewing class i thought that all of the driving back and forth and waiting would soon become mundane and frankly get old for me.
but this week i realized how wonderful it has proved to be for us all.
it has been fun exploring new towns.
we have found many new markets, libraries, cafes and thrift stores.
on the days we drive into the city we have enjoyed the time for listening to new music and books on tape. we are listening to this one right now.
i enjoy my norah time while we wait reading, drawing, playing a card game or two.
and when norah decides to hang back with a friend or papa, i catch up on knitting, making meal plans for the week while perusing new cookbooks or just simply closing my eyes for a rest while i listen and hum along to the songs that i now know by heart.
and above all i love how much hannah has grown to love each and every one of her new endeavors.
i asked her this week which one she liked best and she responded “i love them all the same”.
i couldn’t agree more.

when i was young i spent many weekends with my grandparents.
my nana and i would sit together at the breakfast table on saturday mornings with the newspaper and circle all of the yard/garage sales happening that day. after breakfast she would hand me a few dollars and off we went.
we also frequented the local thrift stores in her neighborhood pretty regularly too. she didn’t drive so we would walk everywhere.
i think of her often as i visit my local thrift stores. i wish they were walkable.
every once in a while i will take her to my favorite ones and it feels like old times.

i have collected quite a few of these glass jars with the cork tops over the years but today i found an actual set of them still in the box.
it was neat to see they had a name “in keepers”.
i use them to store my bulk items and i think they are so pretty.
i don’t really need any more but just like baskets i can’t seem to have too many.
they also make great gifts with a little something in them.

now that spring is here i look forward to yard sailing.
i have been doing a bit of spring cleaning these days so i may be having one myself.
but you won’t be seeing any glass jars or baskets for sale.

when i was in high school i acquired the nickname “apple”.
1. because i ate a lot of apples and
2. because i always had rosy red cheeks.
now at 39 you will still find me eating apples daily but my cheeks no longer resemble them.
today i decided to wear blush.
i am not lying when i say i have never worn it (except when my mom used to apply it on with full force for ballet recitals).
i was a bit shy this morning as i took out the brush. i actually watched a video on how to apply.
i have to admit it did feel fun and new.
when i was leaving today and kissed chris goodbye, he noticed.
i guess i really was looking a bit pale.
i am still researching products.
i would love to try to make my own lip gloss and blush
maybe with a little help i can earn my nick name back.

today was almost 60 degrees and sunny.
i bought a few violas and a some sweet alyssum to brighten up some pots.
i then cleaned up a few beds, and we planted peas and some spinach in the cold frame.
norah has been wanting to plant seeds for weeks now.
the other day while at the store she had some of her own money to spend.
she chose to buy seeds rather than candy.

a few things….

i am honored to be a guest over at habit for the month of march.
i am in good company over there.
it’s friday and i have begun to post over at tend again. it’s so good to be back.

i am bringing spring indoors. seeding. forcing forsythia. a few snowdrop stems here and there.
i love the change of seasons.

chris and hannah wanted to start downton abbey. we watched episode 1 last night. i love having an excuse to watch the whole thing over again.
many of us agree that hannah looks a bit like lady mary.

i made a beet chocolate cake to celebrate chris and his 39 years today.
i’m not gonna lie though, the guy wishes for a duncan hines cake every year. just like he got as a kid.
but that i leave to his mom.
he liked my cake though.
he’s a good sport.

life is so much more fun with you in it!
