had the pleasure of attending a kinfolk dinner at terrain last night.
it was a beautiful evening meeting new friends and hanging with old friends.
and the food was some of the best seasonal local fare i have ever had.

must go now. chris is shooing me off the computer to tell me all about falling water.

this girl of mine is growing up.
one of her girl scout projects was to make the family dinner last week.
she made a grocery list, collected her own money and off she went to the market alone.
yes i let her walk alone!
it’s only two blocks away and it felt so good to trust that it was all fine.
she was beaming as she walked out the door and beaming even more when she arrived home.
she couldn’t stop telling me how fun it was.
then she prepared and served us a ginger udon soup (her own recipe).

it’s fun watching her grow up and it seems as if she is doing it at just the right pace.

chris is away for a few days as a chaperone for the annual OC teen trip.
yesterday he spent the day here.
yeah i am a bit jealous.
he keeps sending me photos and texts saying how much he wants us all to go back.
he just sent me a text saying “architecture is my new passion.”

the girls and i have a few things planned while he is away but it’s all pretty low key.
our schedules are calming down and that summery relaxed feel is creeping in.

13 years ago on a foggy, balmy, rainy day we married.
i was so excited i forgot to wear makeup.
my mom handed me some lipstick in the limo.
i succeeded in soaking in as much as i could that day.
i danced my heart out. i ate my whole dinner and lots of dessert too.
i savored our cake.
and at the end of the night my cheeks ached from smiling so much.
it was a really good day.
and every day after has been pretty darn good too.
happy anniversary c.
it just keeps getting better.
i love you.

our 5th year going to assateague island.
a tradition.
this year there were 70 of us.
we took over an entire campsite loop.
it was windy and cold but that did not stop little people and big people from going in the water. (i was NOT one of them)
there was much laughter.
the one thing i always look forward to is laughing with my friends.

this place here can be a funny thing.
this place here meaning the internet.
sometimes it can bring me so much joy and inspiration and sometimes i get overwhelmed with it.

i stumbled on this interview with Lisa Congdon and found it inspirational.

well that was a nice long break now wasn’t it?
life has been full these days.
and on top of it i decided to take a little break from the computer which has enabled me to get lots accomplished here at home.
i painted my bedroom and i love it. it used to be a deep blue and now it is my favorite benjamin moore ‘revere pewter’.
now i want to spend all of my time in bed!
it is amazing how paint can completely change the feel of a room.
my grandfather crafted my bed and built in closets. i only have one little dresser in my room and the rest is completely built in.
chris has some pretty little knobs ready to go for the drawers along the bottom of the bed.
i made another hanging planter for in between the windows. this time from a basket.
i want to make one of these for the opposite wall and then i think the room will feel complete.
ok off to take a nap.

April 22, 2012

this past thursday night chris and i taught another backyard chicken workshop.
the second part of the workshop was today where people came to our backyard to see our little operation.

yesterday chris put up a few yew branches for the hens to roost on.
they love to get up onto things.
the flat roof of the hen-house is a nice landing place for them. however they also poop all over it and it looks a bit gross.
i would have loved to put a living roof on top but they would have destroyed it. especially since most nights they like to sleep up there.
i had chris make a little lip all around the top so we could fill it with straw.
now they have a nice place to rest and it looks a lot nicer.

until we can replace that window on the shed i am going to try to fill the openings with plants, similar to a living pallet wall.

i also made another hanging planter for right outside the coop.
those planters are a bit addictive.
i have a few pieces of pottery set aside to turn into more planters today.
i would love one in my bathroom, above the kitchen sink and my front porch i think is in need of a little cluster of them.

in other news it is raining!! yippee!
it is supposed to rain all day into tomorrow.
i can hear my garden singing for joy.

i have been waiting for a cozy rainy day.
curried lentil soup is on the stove, a batch of granola is in the oven and there will be roasted chicken for dinner.

happy sunday friends! xo
