today when i was working indoors i heard the hens. they sounded flustered and upset. i ran out to find nothing, no signs of them. i looked around for a while and hoped that they would return from free ranging soon. later i found only one. we were down to two as of late. one was taken by a raccoon this winter. later i saw a coopers hawk hanging in the tree in our backyard. i think it may have been the culprit.
we have been lucky to have a sweet flock that have lasted almost 5 years.
on a happier note, last week we ordered two of these. two of these and two of these.
they will be here just in time for easter.
scenes from a rainy day sunday
getting ready for an afternoon birthday party for chris
made a lentil soup and curried chicken soup
cupcakes still need to be iced
hannah and i finished Because of Winn Dixie last night
a sweet book
listening to car talk
i love click and clack’s laugh
last night we went to house concert to see this guy
what a great performer.
tomorrow we are having a birthday celebration with friends for chris.
and the big news around these parts is we are going on a trip!
a trip out to nevada to visit my father.
we leave this friday.
it’s been a long time since we have traveled this far.
the girls have never been on an airplane.
to say they are excited is an understatement
today was supposed to be cloudy with some rain
but the sun woke me up this morning
yesterday was also beautiful and although it did not quite hit 50 degrees
it still felt like a stripey, boatneck, dress kind of day
over pants of course
and a little scarf in the hair
for good measure
happy weekend friends xo
i have spring fever.
one of my remedies is forcing bulbs and branches.
it’s a simple way to bring spring indoors a little early.
i have been forcing paperwhites since christmas on a regular basis.
i buy a large amount when they go on sale and have them on hand.
i also am forcing some grape hyacinths or muscari (the little ones)
which i think are so sweet. they take a little longer than paperwhites.
but since they are small they can be placed in with other plants in a terrarium
or all by themselves with some moss.
i also love to bring branches indoors. they look beautiful just by themselves even before they bloom or together with a bouquet of tulips or other flowers.
right now i have some cherry branches that have just begun to blossom
i found them outside of our library on the ground where the trees were being trimmed that day.
the workmen were delighted to lessen their load as i tied them onto my bike.
things are starting to bud outside here too which helps to bring my fever down a bit.
i noticed the witch-hazel in bloom as i drove by our local arboretum.
wednesday night
friends over for dinner
pork tenderloin, roasted sweet potatoes, and this
good times.
happy march!
it is 6pm here.
still light enough for hannah to be out trying out her new rollerblades we just thrifted this afternoon. i feel as if i have deserted this little spot of mine. my goal is to come back here more often. i tend to post a lot (daily actually) over at my flickr site. you can click on my photos on the side bar to take you there.
see you soon.
on mondays chris and hannah have archery. they get home a bit late. norah and i have some time together for reading, having tea parties, and taking candlelit baths. we like monday nights.
A Nature Party
hannah had a party with her friends today to celebrate her 9th birthday. she chose a nature theme which involved terrarium making, pin the bee on the hive, animal games, a fruit tart and fruit dipped in chocolate fondue. i am not sure who had more fun, me or the girls. i really enjoy preparing and decorating for parties.
