June 7, 2012

i have been wearing long sleeves and pants all week long and i am in heaven.
i even had a cardigan on yesterday.
i think i was meant to live in maine.
i wouldn’t mind in the least if i never had to wear shorts again.

there have been little mini thunderstorms happening all afternoon.
i snuck out in between to do some transplanting.

the girls have been in and out all day.
hannah biked to a friend’s this morning and she is still not home.
norah went to a friend’s house for dinner.
and chris is still at work finishing up a woodworking project.

i have a roasted chicken, turnip fries and a big farm salad with chopped up kohlrabi all to myself.

i’m not complaining.

last night hannah and i took our first appalachian clogging class

and i am in love.

i couldn’t stop smiling and giggling.

i love love love to dance and this style of dance feels like it grows in my bones.

so natural. like i have done it before.

maybe i have.

and check out a little film, by free people, of the kinfolk dinner i attended a few weeks back.

look fast and you might be able to find me.

hint: i am the one drinking that big ol’ glass of red wine.

when hannah was little the ice cream truck came around the corner playing it’s tune.

she looked at us and asked what it was and we told her it was the music truck. “it comes around the neighborhood to play music for us all” (hey we weren’t totally lying, right?)

well she thought it was the greatest thing and every time it came around she would shout “the music truck, the music truck!”

the next summer the music truck reappeared and we were all sitting out back when our neighbor shouted “the ice cream truck!”

hannah turned right around, looked us straight in the eye and asked “they have ice cream??!!!!”

BUSTED!!!

i have always wanted to make a cherry pie.

and i have always wanted to make a cherry pie for my grandfather.

i have heard him several times talk about how much he loves a cherry pie. his mother was an amazing baker.

when my friend called me yesterday to tell me she had found two huge cherry trees dripping with fruit in a field across from her house i knew this was my chance.

the cherries were small but super sweet.

i picked all by my lonesome.

and it was beautiful.

the pie is in the oven and soon i’ll be heading over to surprise my pop.

i think i’ll pick up some vanilla ice cream on the way.

my front porch has always been a room of transition.
i can never seem to figure out what to do with the space.
it doesn’t get used as much as i would like.
we all seem to navigate onto the back porch instead.
we have plans of one day making it into a bigger living room and front entrance.
in the mean time the girls and i came up with a summer plan for our front porch.
a summer art studio.
