Archives for January 2012
i never got to writing out that new years list.
but i do love a list.
so since there is only one more day before we turn the calendar
here is a little inspiration for February (don’t know about you but i always have to write out February a few times before i get it right).
watch this
and this.
some valentine knits.
a beehive is definitely in order this year.
spoon oil all of my woodens.
make a poodle skirt for a sock hop birthday party for a certain almost 10 year old.
finish a quilt for that almost 10 year old.
put together my seed and plant order. thanks for the reminder shari.
make some plans for a little get away. i like the looks of this or just this please.
and i’ll end this list with some cake.
life throws some serious curve balls.
this week i found myself opening up and thinking about something that i never thought i would.
fun and exciting and a little scary all at the same time.
it’s been a good mental exercise (even in the wee hours of the night)
but like i said before i look forward to what comes next.
even if it involves getting out my catchers mitt.
i am in need of a new broom.
i really like this one.
my friend thinks i’m funny that I won’t go to target to buy a new one.
but the truth of the matter is i like pretty things and i can’t find one at target that i like.
i know, i know it’s a broom for goodness sakes.
but more than ever i am wanting to take the time to think about my purchases and buy things that are well made and that I really love.
even if it means that I have to save up for something as practical as a broom.
this may all seem a bit complicated for some but for me it seems to simplify things.
it has been my mantra for some time to “surround myself with what i truly love”
and yes this means so much more than just stuff.
but I want to love my things too.
and you know what? I have actually been buying less since really trying to stick with my mantra.
asking myself “do I absolutely LOVE this? Will this bring me joy? Do I really need this? has helped me put many a thing back on the shelf and think about stuff in general.
but a broom?
well that is something I definitely cannot live without
and yes it will bring me joy each time I sweep up a pile of dirt because
gosh darn it i’m gonna love my broom!
the snow fell through the night and as morning broke the day seemed to slow down before we even knew it.
we had quite a day ahead of us filled with commitments.
one by one those things were cancelled and a day playing in the snow and snuggling by the fire took their place.
the fire was started early this morning and will stay lit probably until bedtime.
many times as i stoke it i am reminded of how a fire place was one of the only things (other than a kitchen that could fit a cozy nook with a chair in it) that i required when buying a house.
after the settlement of our house 12 years ago this past december, we walked into our new home empty and full of promise, started a fire and ate a pizza on the bare hardwood floor.
a few things…
first i would like to thank kate from the bottom of my heart for a stellar job on this space here.
big hugs for all of your help and for knowing just what i like. xo
also i would like to say a hi to all of you.
thanks for stopping by and don’t be shy, i would love to hear from you.
although there is still a little work to be done, i now have a space that i truly love and am feeling more motivated and inspired to come here daily. i hope you will too.
thursdays are always a nice relaxing day of doing whatever comes next.
