happy birthday christopher!!
cheers to a year full of timber.
thanks for bringing so much beauty into our lives. xo
creating space for beauty & simplicity
there’s nothing like coming home to a little something in the post.
and expecting something each month is even better.
when i read about natalie’s project, print: a year in film i knew i had to indulge.
not only because i think she (along with her hubbie Luke) is the cutest darn thing around!
but also because i think the whole idea is a simple and beautiful one.
i came home to my february mailing yesterday. i sat and read it three times in a row. it made me realize how much i love to read letters and how few i receive . it made me realize i want to write more letters.
and the photograph was beautiful. perfect really. i have it placed in the corner of a mirror.
and when people ask me who the picture is of, i think i’ll just reply “an old friend” because that’s what this whole thing feels like.
a little letter and a photograph from an old friend.
thanks nat! xo
i have let go of the fact that we will not have a proper winter.
instead i am welcoming with open arms the spring that has already sprung around these parts.
the light is changing each day and the hens have begun to lay again.
norah is already itching to dye some eggs.
thanks to our americauna we already have some lovely blue ones.
turning ten is a big deal.
hannah wanted a sock hop to celebrate double digits.
we all had a blast preparing and decorating and transforming our home into a dance hall and diner.
there were handcut french fries (thanks to a loaned out fryer), black and white milkshakes (thanks to a borrowed shake maker), mini hamburgers, root beer floats, and ice cream sundaes.
and there was lots of dancing, (the hand jive, mashed potato, the twist) and hula hoop contests to work off all of the eating.
a good time had by all.
happy birthday sweet hannah. xo
we went away for the holiday weekend.
i did not bring my camera but i kept busy making.
i finished the quilt for hannah’s birthday. i love her sweet little drawings that i embroidered onto linen.
and i knit a pair of fingerless mitts for a special friend’s birthday.
it feels good to knit again.
i want a pair for me now.
i have been feeling a bit tired in the afternoon the last few days.
may have to do with me staying up at night watching season one of this
boy is it ever good.
hannah made a mid afternoon snack of ginger udon soup.
off to finish the beef stew for dinner.
then when everyone has drifted off i will begin season two.
i think i may have to give in to a cat nap tomorrow.
when i was young we always made valentine boxes every year.
a shoebox or oatmeal tin would be turned into a mailbox to collect all of the valentines from schoolmates, cards from grandparents that came in the mail and any other little love notes or treats that came our way.
then on valentines day we would open the box to find all of the love in one big burst.
yesterday the girls had a few friends over to share this little tradition of ours.
there was also whipped cream and strawberries, cupcakes and of course conversational hearts.
i had to laugh at how the messages on the hearts have changed since i was a girl.
LOL and text me!! too funny.
