When I was young we always made valentine boxes complete with hearts, ribbon, and lots of doilies. Each time we received a valentine in the mail, from school, or from a friend, into the box they would go. Of course there was the slipping of little surprise notes and treats into the box from mom, dad, and sister too. It was so fun waiting for valentines day when we would have a tea party and then open up the box to find loads of cards, chocolates, and other gifts to open all at once. We have started our little boxes. Every once and a while I will notice a little whispering and giggling over by my box. It’s getting a little bit heavier each day. I can’t wait!
I have always been a prepster at heart. Since I was young I have been wearing penny loafers, gingham and plaid shirts, wrap around skirts, toggle coats, and duck boots. Over the years I have tried out some new styles but the preppiness always stuck with me. In my punk rock stage I would wear my pop’s wing tips with my trench coat. In my mall chick stage you would find me with a bob and big bangs carrying my LL BEAN tote book bag. In college, trying to be a bit more mod but entering the world of farming I was caught between hippie and prep wearing tie dyes with my hunter boots and a barbour wax coat. I just could not shake the preps. So now that I have felt my way through a few kinds of styles it feels good to come full circle, head up high, and proud to be PREPPY. Yesterday I found a pair of penny loafers and a pair of Italian wing tip style shoes at Goodwill in the men’s section. Good thing I have big feet.
I turned 37 this past weekend. Every year gets better. More and more love and abundance flows into my life each year. I am a very lucky lady. I look forward to a new year and with it some fun adventures such as
~visiting Ireland
~buying a piano and starting to play again
~joining a monthly singing circle
~planting more edibles on my property
~studying Permaculture
~building a cob oven
~getting bees
~dancing more
~having fun and not taking life too seriously
happy new year! we have been enjoying the holiday season with lots of celebration but making time for rest too. Above is a little glimpse of what we have been doing the last couple of weeks…. a christmas eve hike to our favorite little pine tree to feed the woodland creatures, a peaceful christmas day, days in between full of baths and dreaming about building a cabin in the woods, and a magical new years eve. wishing you all a new year full of abundance, peace, and light! xo
Oh it is so good to have snow again. It has been quite a few years since we have had a really big snow. The girls have been out in it all day sledding, fort making, and of course there was a snowman to be made. Norah thinks that tonight he will come alive like this one
We snuck away to our favorite little cabin nestled in the woods along the Appalachian trail for our annual Christmas cookie baking weekend. The fire burned all weekend as we baked, played games, read books, knit, ate popcorn and snuggled in with grandparents, an aunt, an uncle, and one cutie of a cousin.

My day started early as usual. My mother and I are foragers of the forest year round. We are always on the look out for stumps, branches, and woodsy treasures. This time of year especially you will find us out and about searching for fallen evergreens. Early this morning we hopped in the car, clippers in hand singing…. “Here we go a foraging among the leaves so green….” We found just what we were looking for.
The girls found their shoes full of St Nicholas treasures and we lit our second candle of Advent honoring the plants. I sure did have plenty of those to add to our advent ring after my early morning adventure!
