We are hunkering down and getting ready for yet another storm. Two more feet of snow is on it’s way and coming in tonight. The pantry is stocked for me to make some soup, banana bread and maybe some of these are in order. A new hat was made ( pattern from here ) to keep a little one’s head warm for out playing in the snow. I am not quite sure where all of the snow will go, considering my backyard already looks like the above, but who cares! We’re ready for fires, hot chocolate, some knitting, and maybe a movie or two. I am feeling in the mood for this one. Isn’t that song just the greatest? Another one for me to learn on my uke!

It is a winter wonderland over here in these parts! 20 some inches of snow! We have not seen this much in quite some time and we hear there is more on it’s way maybe in a few days. The snow started on Friday night. We had the pleasure of being invited to stay over for a slumber party by the cutest family ever. They only live a few blocks away but what fun it was watching the snow fall down with them, snuggled by the fire, especially since one of them is very, very interested in weather and it’s patterns. We got minute by minute updates on inches fallen, what states had been shut down, and how deep it was right out in his own back yard. He also happens to make some amazing french toast. Later on Saturday we hunkered down at home to watch the storm slowly calm down. There was some sewing and drawing mixed in with reading books and a movie. Today I think we will be out shoveling ourselves out and maybe a sled down a hill or two.
Hannah has a new found love and lucky for us her uncle is a wonderful musician and classical guitar teacher. I myself have been itching to learn a new instrument. This is my new found love. I am saving up my allowance for one. I fiddled around with a beautiful one of a friends last weekend playing songs from here and fell in love. I would love to learn this song..
When I was young we always made valentine boxes complete with hearts, ribbon, and lots of doilies. Each time we received a valentine in the mail, from school, or from a friend, into the box they would go. Of course there was the slipping of little surprise notes and treats into the box from mom, dad, and sister too. It was so fun waiting for valentines day when we would have a tea party and then open up the box to find loads of cards, chocolates, and other gifts to open all at once. We have started our little boxes. Every once and a while I will notice a little whispering and giggling over by my box. It’s getting a little bit heavier each day. I can’t wait!
I have always been a prepster at heart. Since I was young I have been wearing penny loafers, gingham and plaid shirts, wrap around skirts, toggle coats, and duck boots. Over the years I have tried out some new styles but the preppiness always stuck with me. In my punk rock stage I would wear my pop’s wing tips with my trench coat. In my mall chick stage you would find me with a bob and big bangs carrying my LL BEAN tote book bag. In college, trying to be a bit more mod but entering the world of farming I was caught between hippie and prep wearing tie dyes with my hunter boots and a barbour wax coat. I just could not shake the preps. So now that I have felt my way through a few kinds of styles it feels good to come full circle, head up high, and proud to be PREPPY. Yesterday I found a pair of penny loafers and a pair of Italian wing tip style shoes at Goodwill in the men’s section. Good thing I have big feet.
